Summer Reading Program Kickoff

The kickoff for the 2021 Summer Reading Program will be from 4-8pm on Wednesday, May 26 (rain date May 27).  Kids can register for the reading program at the library (or from their car), make (or take & make) a craft, and play a few fun games.

Virtual Author Talk with Alison McGhee

Throughout the month of May, SELCO (Southeastern Libraries Cooperating) is hosting a series of author talks over Zoom as part of the 2021 Minnesota Author Tour.  The program is possible due to support from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the Minnesota Library Legacy Program.

The author tour continues on Thursday, May 20 at 6:30pm with a talk with Alison McGhee.

Alison McGhee writes for all ages and in all forms.  Her most popular books include the bestselling novel “Shadow Baby,” which was a Today Show Book Club pick, and “Someday,” the #1 New York Times bestselling picture book for adults.

2020 saw the publication of “The Opposite of Fate,” a new novel for adults, and “World So Wide,” a picture book for all ages.  McGhee’s novel “Where We Are” was a finalist in Young adult literature for the Minnesota Book Awards in 2021.

McGhee lives in Minneapolis and southern California.

Virtual Author Talk with David Housewright

Throughout the month of May, SELCO (Southeastern Libraries Cooperating) will be hosting a series of author talks over Zoom as part of the 2021 Minnesota Author Tour.  The program is possible due to support from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and the Minnesota Library Legacy Program.

The author tour continues on Tuesday, May 11 at 6:30pm with a talk with David Housewright.  David Housewright is an award winning Minnesotan author of crime fiction and mystery fiction.

A past president of the Private Eye Writers of America, Housewright is best known for his Rushmore McKenzie and Holland Taylor detective novels as well as other tales of murder and mayhem in the Midwest.  He earned the Edgar Award from the Mystery Writers of America for “Penance” (1996) as well as three Minnesota Book Awards for “Practice to Deceive” (1998), “Jelly’s Gold” (2010) and “Curse of the Jade Lily” (2013).

David Housewright’s “From the Grave: A McKenzie Novel” is a finalist for the 2021 Minnesota Book Awards.

One Book, One Minnesota

One Book | One Minnesota is a statewide book club that invites Minnesotans of all ages to read a common title and come together virtually to enjoy, reflect, and discuss.  The book pick for spring 2021 is “Slider” by Pete Hautman.  For more information on the program and to register for the April 21 virtual author talk, click here.

Celebrate National Library Week

The St. Charles Public Library is celebrating National Library Week all month long with a daily trivia challenge.  Throughout the month of April, library visitors will have the chance to guess the correct answer to a book-related trivia question.  Correct answers are rewarded with treats, plus entry into a prize drawing to be held at the end of the month.
