Summer Reading Kickoff with the Jolly Pops
The Summer Reading Program will begin with a kickoff event on Wednesday, June 1. Registration for summer reading will be from 5-8 pm. A special musical performance from the Jolly Pops will begin at 6pm. The program is made possible due to a Library Legacy grant.
If you are unable to attend the kickoff, you can also register anytime after June 1 at the St. Charles Public Library or online.
Every week, there is something fun to the do at the library:
Kids Activity Night with Winona County 4-H – Tuesdays, 6-8pm (June 7 – August 23)
Story Time – Wednesdays, 10:30am (June 8 – August 24)
Teen Activity Night – Thursdays, 6-8pm (June 9 – August 25)
Through Library Legacy grants, the library will host the following guest performers: Chione Quintet, Z Puppets Rosenschnoz, International Owl Center, Salsa del Soul, National Eagle Center, and Laura Mackenzie. Whitewater State Park will also visit the library for programs. Check the Summer Reading Program calendar for more details, or our Special Events page.
Count Your Books
Kids can earn prizes by keeping track of the books they read. Every 10 books read will earn kids a prize. For older readers, three chapters equal one book.
Every Friday, the library will issue a different challenge for kids to meet, such as wearing clothing of a specific color or entering the library with a hop, skip, and a jump. Every kid that meets the challenge will receive a prize!
Each week has a new trivia challenge. Kids that answer the question correctly will be entered into a weekly drawing for a prize.
A visit to the library will give kids the opportunity to enter into a monthly drawing for a fun prize.
Read a book that matches a square on the Book Bingo sheet. A bingo earns readers a small prize. A blackout earns readers a larger prize.
Where is the Reading Bear?
Every week, the St. Charles Public Library’s reading bear will visit a different location in town and pose for a photo to post on Facebook. Correct guesses on the reading bear’s location will earn kids a prize.
Water Fight Fun
All reading efforts will be combined into a grand total that ends in a water fight on Tuesday, August 16 at 6pm (rain date August 18). The more books read over the course of the summer will add more celebrity guests to the water fight. To participate in the water fight, kids must read at least 100 books (or 300 chapters) over the course of the summer.
