St. Charles Public Library
2023 Summer Reading Program
June 6 – August 25

Summer Reading Kickoff with Z Puppets Rosenschnoz
The Summer Reading Program will begin with a kickoff event on Tuesday, June 6.  Registration for Summer Reading will be from 5-8pm.  Special entertainment will begin at 6pm, and will feature Z Puppets Rosenschnoz.  The program is made possible due to a Library Legacy grant.

Weekly Activities
Every week, there is something fun to the do at the library:
Kids Activity Night with Winona County 4-H – Tuesdays, 6-8pm (June 13 – August 22)
Story Time – Wednesdays, 10:30am

Special Events
Throughout the summer, the St. Charles Public Library will host the following special guests: author Pat Bauer and illustrator Dave Geister, author Jamie Becker, Whitewater State Park, artist Leah Ode Kiser, musician Tom Muschler, RAD Zoo, TaikoArts Midwest, and falconer Jackie Fallon.  Check the Summer Reading Program calendar for more details, or our Special Events page.

Count Your Books
Kids can earn prizes by keeping track of the books they read.  For every 10 books read, kids will earn a prize.  For older readers, three chapters equal one book.

Fabulous Fridays
Every Friday, the library will issue a different challenge to kids, such as wearing clothing of a specific color or entering the library with a hop, skip, and a jump.  Every kid that meets the challenge will receive a prize!

Weekly Trivia
Each week has a new trivia challenge.  Kids that answer the question correctly will be entered into a weekly drawing for a prize.

Monthly Drawing
A visit to the library will give kids the opportunity to enter into a monthly drawing for a fun prize.

Book Bingo
Read a book that matches a square on the Book Bingo sheet.  A bingo earns readers a small prize.  A blackout earns readers a larger prize.

Where is the Reading Chicken?
Every week, the St. Charles Public Library’s reading chicken will visit a different location in town and pose for a photo to post on Facebook.  Correct guesses on the reading chicken’s location will earn kids a prize.

Water Fight Fun
All reading efforts will be combined into a grand total that ends in a water fight on Tuesday, August 15 at 6pm (rain date August 17).  The more books read over the course of the summer will add more celebrity guests to the water fight.  To participate in the water fight, kids must read at least 100 books (or 300 chapters) over the course of the summer.
